Chloe Grace Moretz is in talks to join Charlize Theron in the big screen adaptation of Gillian Flynn's mystery novel Dark Places, Deadline has learned. She will play a character named Diondra.
Theron is on board to produce and is set to play Libby, a woman who testified against her brother, Ben, as her family's murderer when she was 7 years old.
In the novel, a group of people calling themselves the Kill Club believe that Ben didn't commit the crime and want Libby's help to prove his innocence. The movie will probably be structured like the novel, with past events seen through flashbacks from the perspective of some of the major characters, including the dead ones.
French director Gilles Paquet-Brenner is adapting the novel and will direct from his own script.
Moretz is reprising her role as Hit-Girl in Universal's action-comedy Kick-Ass 2 and is playing the title character in the Carrie remake, both of which are coming out later this year.
Besides Dark Places, Moretz is also in talks to join Lynn Shelton's Laggies, a dark comedy in which she will play Anne Hathaway's best friend.
